My wife and I were checking out apartments and noticed a drastic increase in price from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom. We then tried figuring out a workaround for an office space which led us to measuring walk-in closets to see if that’d be an option.
Will a WFH office fit into a walk-in closet?
We measured the office setup we had at that time, and everything looked like it’d fit.
We relocated and had to disassemble everything to get it in the closet. We reassembled the desk and office chair in the closet, and fortunately everything fit. What we didn’t expect is that during the pandemic I’d be 100% remote and cooped up in a closet 40+ hours a week, but I’ll save that story for another time.
We ran a power strip cord under the door and into the nearest outlet, put up some décor on the closet wall that was visible while on zoom, and called it a day. I don’t recommend a walk-in closet as the first WFH office choice, but it’ll get the job done if needed.
Oh, and for zoom calls I had to angle the webcam just right to ensure the upper shelving wasn’t seen.
Update: I came across a highly improved office setup in a more standard sized closet. Thank you Reddit user Weppe1983 for sharing this pic:

WFH Walk-in Closet Setup:
Ikea Desktop Bamboo: 55 1/8″ x 25 5/8″
Ikea desk legs (2 legs; positioned on far side of table)
Ikea ALEX Drawer Unit (positioned on door side under tabletop)

Ikea adjustable office chair (standard size with wheel casters)
Ikea work lamp
HP Printer
Two External Monitors
PC Tower

Just noticing everything is from Ikea, lol. What can I say? I like to one-stop shop. I no longer live near an Ikea, but one thing I like about their furniture is that it’s typically easy to assemble and disassemble making it more portable (ideal for moving).
Tip: If you have a solid desk that doesn’t come apart – but the measurements show it will fit in the closet – make sure there’s enough clearance to swing it into the closet! Just because the measurements show it fits doesn’t guarantee you’ll be able to get it into place.
